Summer Camp: Camp Hi-Sierra http://www.sccc-scouting.org/sccc/program/camping/chs/index.asp Troop 494's traditional summer camp is CAMP HI-SIERRA, the privately owned property of Santa Clara County (Silicon Valley Monterey Bay) Council, BSA and is located at an elevation of 5000 ft. within the Stanislaus National Forest. The troop usually camps here during the week following the 4th of July. Summer camp runs from Sunday through Saturday. In the past, we camp at Sioux, which has space for 24 campers. Camp Hi-Sierra offers a wide range of merit badge programs as well as a Trail to First Class program for the younger scout. An active part of the camp is the Tribe of Camp Hi-Sierra. There is a program for the older scout called Base Camp. Camp Hi-Sierra is located 34 miles east of Sonora on highway 108; about 3 1/2 hours drive from the Santa Clara County Council Service Center in San Jose. 6.4 miles above Long Barn look for the “Camp Hi-Sierra” sign on the right. Campsites Are Equipped With The Following: 8’x10’x8’ canvas wall tents on wood and metal platforms l Picnic Table with dining fly l Bulletin Board l Fire pit l Equipment rack with shovel, rake, broom, and fire bucket l Flagpole and American flag in troop assembly area l Double private latrine l Water spigot and bubbler l Hand washing station l Plenty of shade
BASE CAMP Information
Base Camp consists of backpacking to Clavey, biking, rappelling, water
activities at Pine Crest Lake and much more. Hi-Sierra has undergone many changes with many improvements. One thing that hasn't changed is their great meals! |
