The Ride
Distance across the bridge – 1.7 miles
Distance to Sausalito - ~ ˝ mile
From Sausalito to Tiburon ~ 9 miles
Total cycling is about 11 miles.
Golden Gate Bridge
Bicycles are permitted to cross using only the west side of the bridge.
When riding across the bridge, you must walk your bicycle around the
towers on the Bridge, as there is a very limited amount of space to
maneuver and you won't be able to see anyone coming from the other
direction or standing in the middle of the sidewalk. Please walk your
bike around the towers! Also watch for oncoming bicycle traffic.
The bridge is 1.7 miles long and will
take you to Marin County. Coming off the bridge on the Marin County
side, loop under the bridge and follow the main road to Sausalito. Plan
on stopping to make sure we have everyone before heading into
Sausalito.
We need to be extra careful as we enter into Sausalito as the hills are
steep and traffic may be heavy. We will ride single file and make sure
that we have everyone before we continue.
We’ll stop at the SF Bay Model at 2100
Bridgeway in Sausalito to tour the exhibit and eat our sack lunch. This
is just past the shops in the center of town. The Bay Model was built by
the Army Corps of Engineers to show how the waters in the bay operate.
Admission is free.Website:http://www.spn.usace.army.mil/Missions/Recreation/BayModelVisitorCenter.aspx
About one mile out of Sausalito on the
main road (Bridgeway Rd.) you will see the Bay Trail start again on the
right. Follow it out of
Sausalito where it will turn to
smooth gravel and go under highway 101 and cross a marsh. Turn right
when the trail crosses Blithedale and follow Blithedale for about one
mile on this very busy road toward Tiburon. The ride from the bridge to
Tiburon should be easily done under two hours at a leisurely pace.
Driving directions to Tiburon: Northbound 101- Take the Mill Valley /
Tiburon Exit, turn right, and follow Tiburon Blvd 4 miles into downtown
Tiburon. Turn right on Main St. The ferry is located on the left at 21
Main St.

Sunday is the annual Bay to Breakers race. Drivers
picking up riders are suggested to head north on 101 to the Richardson
Bridge to Richmond and head back on 880. Estimated return will be
between 2 to 3 PM and we’ll contact parents via phone to tell you about
when to meet your son and his bike at Kennedy.
Angel Island Map. From Ayala Cove, we head south
around the island. Ridge campsites are located near Battery Wallace.
We’ll take a ride around the island on Sunday morning and for the more
energetic, you can hike to Mt. Livermore. Bikes are not allowed on some
of the trails like the one to Mt. Livermore.
